The Garden of Eden  Feb 1-6 sunday-friday 2009

Despite the forecast southerly, at Clearwater there was a strong NW, and as the jumped up downs at Erewhon came into view a rainbow hung over the Havelock River. Our long anticipated trip was about to begin. We parked in a small tree-sheltered paddock 5 minutes walk from The Clyde River just as three other young folk were about to leave. Despite having thrown out everything unnecessary our packs were at least 18 kg (Phil's was probably 32 kg - about half his weight).

Robinson River - Lake Christabel – Blue Grey River.  13 -15 Nov 2009

The five of us left Christchurch at 7.30am for Palmers Road. After hiding a bike at the Lake Christabel track-start, we drove on to the road-end and were tramping by 11.15am. These days you can no longer drive right to the track start—a locked gate made us walk one km along the road.

Glenrock Stream – Turtons Saddle – Point 1805m, 11 October 2009

This was a new trip for the club. From the south bank Rakaia road, east of Double Hill and Godley Peak, or west of Redclyffe and our usual route to Black Hill, Rakaia.. The trip has resulted from tenure review. There is now a poled route up Glenrock Stream, right from a DoC sign beside the road. Furthermore, the route is now part of the line for Te Araroa, the Cape Reinga to Bluff walking trail.

Lake Lillian – Gargarus Saddle, 25 October 2009

Well, Gargarus Saddle was the intention for this easy-moderate trip, but the day took a sudden and distressing turn.

After meeting Nicole and Ton at West Melton, we had fifteen people for the picturesque drive up the Harper road above Lake Coleridge, to the Harper diversion canal; definitely pleasant in the spring.
